Subclinical Hyperthyroidism

Cooper (JCEM 2007; 92: 3) recommends:

  • Age>60 or post-menopausal or IHD or osteoporosis or symptoms:
    • TSH suppressed: thyroid and DEXA scans, treat anyway
    • TSH detectable: thyroid and DEXA scans, consider treatment based on results
  • Age<60 or pre-menopausal, and no IHD, and no osteoporosis, and no symptoms:
    • TSH suppressed: thyroid scan (plus DEXA in women), consider treatment based on results
    • TSH detectable: consider scans, consider treatment
